Xinomavro Amphora Kyr-Yianni Warehouse 10
€27,30
Xinomavro Amphora by Kyr-Yianni Warehouse 10 is a Xinomavro that steps away from the classic oak-driven approach and explores something more earthy, more transparent and more textural. It comes from ungrafted vines in Amyndeon, a region where altitude, cool nights and sandy soils help Xinomavro keep acidity, energy and detail.
In the glass, it has a bright ruby color and an aromatic profile that moves between red cherry, plum, dried tomato, herbs, spices and a subtle mineral feel. On the palate, it is lively, structured and finer than one might expect from a Xinomavro, with vivid acidity, elegant tannins and a clean finish that leaves fruit, earth and a slightly salty dimension.
The winemaking is what gives it its distinctive identity. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats and the wine then matures for 16 months in a 500-liter amphora. The amphora does not give the aromas that a new oak barrel would. Instead, it lets the variety show more clearly, building texture, intensity and a calmer, earthy complexity.
Xinomavro Amphora is a wine for those who love Xinomavro but want to see it from another angle. It does not rely on the intensity of oak, but on structure, freshness and sense of place. It needs a little time in the glass and pairs very well with mushrooms, game, beef giouvetsi, slow-cooked red-sauce dishes, tomato-based recipes, aged cured meats and mature cheeses. A limited-release red wine from Warehouse 10, with an experimental spirit and a very clear expression of Xinomavro from Amyndeon.
