Kali Riza Kir-Yianni Domaine
€18,00
Kali Riza by Kir-Yianni Estate is a Xinomavro from Amyndeon with a more delicate, refreshing and elegant expression compared to the more austere wines of Naoussa. It comes from old vines aged 40-60 years, through a viticultural project by the Estate focused on identifying and preserving old Xinomavro vineyards in the area. Here, the cool climate, altitude and slow ripening give the wine freshness, clarity and a more airy intensity.
In the glass, it has a medium-intensity purple color. The nose is complex, with red fruits, subtle floral hints, tomato leaf and gentle oak tones. On the palate, it is lively, energetic and well structured, with acidity that brings freshness, fine yet present tannins and a long finish that leaves fruit, herbal notes and the cleaner side of Xinomavro.
The winemaking focuses on detail. The grapes are chilled, go through strict sorting, destemming and crushing, followed by cold pre-fermentation maceration for 6 days. After fermentation and post-fermentation maceration, the final blend is created from different selected vineyards and the wine matures in 3rd and 4th use French oak barrels. This way, the oak supports the wine without covering it, allowing the old vines and Amyndeon to speak clearly.
Kali Riza is a red wine for those who love Xinomavro, but want something finer, fresher and more silky. It has enough structure to evolve over time, but also enough freshness to stand beautifully at the table now. It pairs excellently with meats in spicy red sauces, wild mushroom risotto, peppers stuffed with minced meat, meat pies and fried kefalotyri cheese. A Xinomavro with old roots, clean energy and the more elegant side of Kir-Yianni Estate in Amyndeon.
