Petrakopoulos Winery Mavro
€32,00
Mavro by Petrakopoulos Winery is a distinctive dry red wine from Petrakopoulos Winery in Kefalonia, with the designation PGI Slopes of Ainos. It is produced from 100% Mavrodaphne and is one of the most expressive dry versions of the variety on the island. The vineyards are located at approximately 350 meters altitude, on clay-sandy soils, with old vines of low yields.
In the glass, it shows a deep purple color, while on the nose aromas of black cherry, cassis, plum, sour cherry, black tea, cinnamon, clove, bay leaf, lavender, and chocolate stand out. On the palate, it is dense, serious, and balanced, with intensity, freshness, soft but structured tannins, and a long finish, highlighting the more refined and age-worthy character of dry Mavrodaphne.
Mavro by Petrakopoulos Winery matures for 12 months in French oak barrels and is bottled unfiltered, in order to preserve its authentic character. It is an ideal choice for those seeking a serious Greek red wine with depth and aging potential. It pairs beautifully with red meats, game, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses. In the open sources I found, the producer’s official page mainly shows the 2022 vintage, while there is also a 2023 market listing; the alcoholic strength appears consistently at 13.5% vol and the bottle size is 0.75 L.
