Paranga Red by Kir-Yianni Estate is a red wine that moves easily between everyday drinking and a more carefully made style. The blend of Merlot, Xinomavro and Syrah brings together fruit, structure and spice, without becoming heavy or difficult. It is one of those red wines that opens easily, but still has enough character to stand properly at the table.
In the glass, it has a bright ruby color and a nose full of small red and black fruits, with cherry and blackberry at the front. Behind them, subtle floral and spicy notes appear, adding a little more depth without covering the fruit. On the palate, it is rich, round and balanced, with a velvety feel, soft tannins and a finish that lingers pleasantly.
Its winemaking is clean and focused. The three varieties are handled separately in stainless steel tanks, so each one keeps its own character before they come together in the final blend. Contact with the light lees for up to 4 months gives a more integrated texture and roundness, while bottle ageing before release helps the wine come out calmer and ready to enjoy.
Paranga Red also has the kind of flexibility that makes a red wine truly useful. It drinks easily with pasta in red sauces, pizza, burgers, meatballs, grilled meats, sausages, mushroom dishes and semi-hard cheeses. A PGI Macedonia red wine with fruit, soft tannins and a relaxed but far from careless character.
