Nykteri Artemis Karamolegos Winery

Nykteri by Artemis Karamolegos Winery is the richer, evening-style and seriously enjoyable side of Santorini. Based mainly on Assyrtiko, with a small contribution from Athiri and Aidani, it comes from old vines in Pyrgos and Megalochori and brings to the glass all the intensity of the volcanic vineyard.

Here, things go one level deeper. The free-run juice ferments in large, mostly second-use oak barrels, while the wine then continues its ageing on the lees, gaining volume, creamy texture and complexity. On the nose it reveals ripe quince, yellow fruit, nuts, honey, hints of yeast and intense minerality.

On the palate it is full-bodied, generous and at the same time incredibly lively, with the sharp acidity of Assyrtiko keeping everything in balance. The long, salty finish makes it ideal for grilled fish, lobster, shrimps, smoked seafood, white meats, dishes with creamy sauces or even more intense small plates that call for a white wine with guts.
