Malagousia Latypes Alpha omaine

23,60

Malagouzia Latypes by Alpha Estate is the more serious, deep and food-friendly side of the variety. It comes from the Latypes block, a small 17-stremma vineyard parcel in the Amyndeon winegrowing zone, at an altitude of 645 metres, with a northwestern orientation facing Mount Voras. There, the cool climate of Florina gives Malagouzia energy, clarity and a more finely detailed aromatic character.
The winemaking here does not follow the easy, fruity version of Malagouzia. After destemming, the grapes undergo pre-fermentation maceration in a controlled environment, fermentation with indigenous yeast flora from the same vineyard block and 9 months of ageing in fine-grained oak barrels, with periodic lees stirring. The result is a white wine with volume, creamy texture and discreet complexity, without feeling heavy.
In the glass, it shows ripe stone fruit, such as peach and apricot, along with citrus fruit, white flowers, hints of basil, lemongrass and a gentle touch from the oak, reminiscent of vanilla and toasted nuts. On the palate, it is full yet fresh, with lovely acidity, aromatic length and a more earthy, mineral feel that takes it beyond the simple idea of an aromatic white wine.
This is a wine for the table, not just for a quick glass. It works beautifully with fish in lemony or buttery sauces, scallops, white meats, Asian dishes with aromatic herbs, sushi, salads with exotic fruit and mature white cheeses.
