Fallen Oak Kir-Yianni Domaine
€13,70
The Fallen Oak by Kir-Yianni Estate is a red wine with depth, fruit and a story that gives it extra weight without needing too much explanation. The blend of Xinomavro, Merlot and Syrah brings together the energetic, earthy side of Naoussa with rounder fruit and spicy intensity, creating a red wine that is structured, but not difficult.
In the glass, it has a deep ruby color and aromas of red fruit, with cherry at the front, along with notes of vanilla and a subtle spicy character. On the palate, it is rich, fruity and round, with velvety tannins, good acidity and oak that has integrated beautifully into the wine, without covering the character of the fruit.
Each variety is vinified separately, so Xinomavro, Merlot and Syrah keep their own identity before entering the final blend. Pre-fermentation maceration at low temperatures, fermentation in stainless steel tanks and ageing in 225 and 500 liter French oak barrels give the wine texture, depth and a calmer, more integrated feel.
The Fallen Oak also carries an emotional side. The label was created as a tribute to the old oak tree that stood next to the Koula Tower, a living symbol of Kir-Yianni Estate in Giannakochori. So this is not just another red blend, but a more personal expression of the Estate’s relationship with Naoussa, Xinomavro and its tradition in blending.
At the table, it works beautifully with meat dishes, slow-cooked recipes, mushrooms, eggplant, red sauces and richer creamy preparations. It is a red wine with body, soft tannins and enough intensity for food, but also the balance needed to avoid feeling heavy.
