Cuvée Gerontampelo Estate Argyros

Cuvée Gerontampelo by Estate Argyros is Assyrtiko at a truly great level. Its name means old vine in the local dialect of Santorini and it fits perfectly, as it comes from ancient, ungrafted vines in Pyrgos, Megalochori and Episkopi. It is a wine with power, rare concentration and that strict, volcanic depth that makes Santorini unique.

Vinification gives it richness and structure, without hiding the pure intensity of Assyrtiko. Ageing in French oak barrels and time on the lees add volume, texture and complexity, while keeping its acidity and salty energy alive.

In the glass it reveals ripe citrus fruit, lemon, stone, smoke, subtle oak, nuts and intense minerality. On the palate it is full-bodied, structured and elegant, with great length and an evolving finish. It needs a large glass, a little time and dishes with serious character: lobster, shellfish, grilled fish, seafood pasta, mushroom risotto, pork with lemon sauce or smoked cheeses.
