Amethystos Sauvignon Blanc Fumé by Domain Costa Lazaridi is the richer, smoky and sophisticated version of Sauvignon Blanc within the Amethystos range. The range was created in 1992 and became one of the estate’s most recognisable labels, while here Domain Costa Lazaridi shows how beautifully Drama can work with an international white variety in a more gastronomic and barrel-aged mood.
In the glass it has a bright pale-yellow colour with blond-green highlights and aromas of exotic fruit, passion fruit, cassis leaves, vanilla and sweet spices. The barrel does not come to cover the Sauvignon Blanc, but to give it depth, a creamier sensation and that fine smoky touch that makes the wine more complex.
On the palate it is dry, full-bodied and harmonious, with measured acidity, volume and a long finish where exotic fruit discreetly meets oak. Open it with oily fish, salmon, shrimps, white meats, poultry with creamy sauces, risotto or smoked cheeses. A Sauvignon Blanc that does not play only on freshness and aroma; it has depth, texture and a lovely evening mood.
