Alpha One Alpha Domaine

83,70

Alpha One by Alpha Estate is the winery’s most collectible and personal expression from the Amyndeon winegrowing zone. It is not a fixed blend that is mechanically repeated every year; it is the winemaker’s selection from the best barrels of each vintage, created to capture the character of the vineyard and the year in the clearest possible way. Alpha Estate describes it as a selection of the 17 best barrels of each harvest.
It comes from the Amyndeon plateau, in northwestern Macedonia, from high-altitude vineyards facing Lake Petron and Mount Voras. The cool climate of Florina keeps freshness and intensity in the wine, while sandy and sandy-clay soils over limestone help build structure and keep the fruit clear.
The winemaking follows a premium approach from start to finish: destemming without crushing, cold soak, fermentation at controlled temperatures and time on the lees with regular stirring. Then comes the long ageing, 36 months in new French oak barrels from Allier and Bertrange, with 200% new oak, meaning 18 months followed by another 18 months in new barrels. It is bottled without filtration and continues to mature in bottle.
In the glass, it is deep, dense and complex, with black fruit, cassis, spices, oak notes and a more earthy, mature feel that opens gradually. On the palate, it has volume, intensity and length, with firm structure, ripe tannins and a long finish. This is a wine for those who want something beyond a simply good red; it needs time, a large glass, food with character and ideally a little patience before you enjoy it.
Pair it with rich meat dishes, grilled beef, lamb, game, dishes cooked with red wine, recipes with roots, mushrooms, plums or chestnuts and mature, creamy cheeses with intensity. Serve it ideally at 16-18°C and give it time in a decanter.
