Tarsanas Kir-Yianni Domaine

21,70

Tarsanas by Kir-Yianni Estate is an Assyrtiko from Florina that steps away from the strictly island-driven image of the variety and shows it through the cool, mountainous environment of Amyndeon. It comes from vineyard block #10 in Samaropetra, in Agios Panteleimonas, an area with a cool climate, limestone subsoil and conditions that help the grape keep intensity, acidity and clarity.
In the glass, it has a bright golden-yellow color and a nose with white flowers, quince, white pear, hints of vanilla and a more mineral feel that gives it depth. On the palate, it is full and structured, with volume from the oak-influenced winemaking, but also high acidity that keeps the wine lively, energetic and balanced. The oak is present, without taking over, adding a creamier texture and a long finish.
The winemaking of Tarsanas has plenty of work behind it. The grapes go through strict sorting, half of them are pressed as whole bunches and the rest are destemmed. Fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks and continues in French oak barrels, while 6 months of ageing with the fine lees give volume, length and a more integrated feel on the palate.
It is a white wine for those who want Assyrtiko with character, but not a predictable one. It has the freshness and intensity of the variety, together with the more earthy, mountainous signature of Amyndeon and the serious touch of Kir-Yianni Estate. At the table, it works beautifully with fish, seafood, shellfish, Mediterranean dishes, green salads and Japanese cuisine, while it also has the structure to stand next to richer dishes with lemony or buttery sauces.
