Assyrtiko Ancien Kyr-Yianni Warehouse 10
€29,80
Assyrtiko Ancien by Kyr-Yianni Warehouse 10 is a white wine that shows Assyrtiko through time, not only through its freshness. It is made from 100% Assyrtiko, classified as PGI Florina, dry, with 13.5% alcohol, and belongs to the more distinctive limited labels of Kir-Yianni. Its base is the 2018 vintage, but the logic of the wine is more complex: the Solera method is used, with additions of younger vintages from 2019 to 2024, bringing together the freshness of younger wines with the depth of ageing.
In the glass, it comes through as an Assyrtiko with another dimension. It keeps the lively acidity and clean energy of the variety, but alongside them appear more mature, complex notes that recall ripe citrus, quince, nuts, honey, wax and subtle oak. On the palate, it is full, intense and layered, with energy, a salty feel and a long finish that leaves a beautiful balance between freshness and aged complexity.
The winemaking is the point that takes Assyrtiko Ancien beyond the classic image of a white wine. The grapes from the 2018 vintage went through strict manual sorting, fermented in stainless steel tanks and stayed for 4 months on the fine lees. The wine was then transferred to three 225-liter French oak barrels of third and fourth use, where it remained for a total of 7 years. Every year, the barrels were topped up with fresh Assyrtiko from the following vintages, gradually building a wine with layers, intensity and a very distinctive character.
It is a white wine for those who want something more thoughtful, but not heavy. It needs a large glass, not too low a serving temperature, and a little time to open up. At the table, it pairs excellently with fish in richer sauces, shellfish, smoked fish, seafood risotto, white meats, dishes with lemon or butter and mature yellow cheeses. A rare Assyrtiko from Florina, with the experimental vision of Warehouse 10 and the experience of Kir-Yianni Estate behind it.
