Syrah by Avantis Estate is one of the most characteristic Greek Syrah wines, with ripe fruit, spicy intensity and a firm but well-crafted structure. It comes from Afrati in Evia and shows the variety in a rich, expressive and gastronomic version.
Vinification takes place with extended maceration and controlled temperature, bringing intensity without harsh tannins. Malolactic fermentation follows, along with 12 months of ageing in new French oak barrels, which give depth, a more velvety texture and subtle notes of smoke, vanilla and spice.
In the glass, it has a deep ruby colour and brings black cherry, plum, blackberry, pepper, cinnamon, smoke, chocolate and sweet spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, juicy and balanced, with ripe tannins, good freshness and a long, spicy finish.
With a little aeration, it opens up even more, revealing earthier, smoky and chocolatey notes. It is a Syrah that drinks beautifully now next to the right food, but also has the structure to evolve in the bottle.
It pairs very well with beef, lamb, rib-eye, BBQ, sausages, game, mushrooms, peppery dishes, smoky sauces and mature cheeses. It is a red wine for anyone looking for power and depth, but with enough elegance so the glass never feels heavy.
