Portes Merlot by Domaine Skouras is an expressive dry red wine with the designation PGI Peloponnese, which highlights the ripe and velvety character of 100% Merlot. It comes from vineyards in Mountainous Corinthia at an altitude of about 350 meters, while the vintage shown as current is 2024.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with ruby highlights, while on the nose aromas of red cherry, ripe plum, sweet vanilla, with hints of violet and tobacco, stand out. On the palate, it is round, velvety, and full, with very ripe soft tannins, dominance of black and red fruit, and a rich, long, complex finish.
Portes Merlot is vinified with alcoholic fermentation and extraction in stainless steel tanks, completes full malolactic fermentation, and matures for 8 months in French barriques, of which about 80% are new, followed by about 6 months in bottle. It pairs very nicely with red meats, pasta with rich sauces, game, and mature cheeses. Its alcoholic strength appears as 14.5% vol and the bottle size is 0.75 L.
