Limnio by Domaine Porto Carras is a red wine that gives voice to one of Greece’s most historic grape varieties, without feeling old-fashioned. Here, Limnio comes through ripe, earthy and well crafted, with intensity but also a softer side that makes it very enjoyable in the glass.
Its color is deep ruby, while on the nose it opens with ripe forest fruit, black cherry and blackberry, along with hints of vanilla, leather, cinnamon and black pepper. Ageing in oak barrels for about one year gives it more structure, depth and spicy complexity, without covering the authentic character of the variety.
On the palate, it is full but not heavy, with rounded tannins, warm fruity expression and a pleasant aftertaste. From the vineyards of Domaine Porto Carras in Sithonia, the wine carries the Mediterranean side of Halkidiki: sun, sea breeze and that earthy touch that makes red wines more food-friendly.
Open it next to Greek cuisine, tomato-based vegetable dishes, slow-cooked red meat, lamb, pork, burgers, grilled mushrooms or mature yellow cheeses. It is a red wine with character, but not tiring; ideal for anyone looking for something more authentic than the classic international style.
