Idisma Drios Chardonnay Magnum by Wine Art Estate is the more impressive version of one of the most recognizable Greek oak-aged Chardonnay wines. In a 1.5-litre bottle, it keeps the rich, creamy character of the label, while offering a more premium serving experience, ideal for larger dinners, gifts or bottles you want to open on a more special occasion.
The grapes come from vineyards in Mikrochori and Kali Vrisi in Drama, areas with cold winters and cool northern summer winds, helping Chardonnay preserve freshness, clarity and balance. Vinification starts with pre-fermentation cold maceration, while fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks and is completed in 225-litre French oak barrels, together with the lees. Manual stirring of the fine lees follows for about 6 months, giving the wine volume, density and a creamy texture.
In the glass, it has a pale lemon colour and aromas that move between lemon, peach, apricot and melon, along with sweeter and oak-driven notes of pastry cream, coconut, nuts, smoke and sandalwood. On the palate, it is full, smooth and dense, but the acidity keeps everything lively and prevents it from becoming heavy. The finish is long, with hints of quince, lemon and dried apricot.
The Magnum bottle suits it beautifully, because this style of Chardonnay has the intensity and structure to stand in a larger format. Try it with salmon, oily fish, seafood with creamy sauces, chicken with white sauce, risotto, smoked cheeses, quiche or richer Greek dishes such as moussaka.
