Diaporos Kir-Yianni Domaine

Diaporos by Kir-Yianni Estate is one of the Estate’s strongest labels and a very serious expression of Xinomavro from Naoussa. It is not simply a big red wine with intensity. It is a wine that shows how Xinomavro can gain depth, concentration and length when it comes from a distinctive vineyard block and is handled with precision in the winery. The small percentage of Syrah comes in discreetly, adding darker fruit, spice and extra volume, without covering the identity of Naoussa.

In the glass, it has a deep red color with purple highlights. The nose is complex and full, with ripe strawberry, violet, vanilla, chocolate, sweet spices and notes of pepper. On the palate, it is rich, concentrated and firm, with tannins that have power but also proper ripeness, balanced acidity and a long finish that leaves fruit, spice and a touch of oak.

The winemaking of Diaporos is clearly designed for complexity and ageing. The Xinomavro goes through a 7-day pre-fermentation maceration at low temperature and ferments in open French oak vats, with post-fermentation maceration that builds structure and depth. It then matures for 18 months in 228-liter French oak barrels of first, second and third use. The Syrah is handled separately, with its own maceration, fermentation and 14 months of ageing in French oak barrels, before being blended with the Xinomavro.

Diaporos is a wine for those who want intensity, but not just weight. It needs time in the glass, loves decanting and has serious ageing potential. At the table, it stands next to dishes with similar power: slow-cooked beef, lamb, game, rich red sauces, mushrooms, smoky flavors and mature cheeses. A red wine deeply rooted in Naoussa, with great character and the most concentrated side of Kir-Yianni Estate.
