Afros Retsina by Kechris Winery is a pet-nat retsina that takes tradition and moves it into a completely modern mood. It is made from Roditis in Amyndeon and bottled unfiltered, keeping its natural sparkle, freshness and a slightly cloudy, more effortless appearance.
Vinification takes place in a closed stainless steel tank, while during the short fermentation fresh pine resin gives the wine its distinctive herbal character. The result is a retsina with delicate bubbles, clean notes of pine, citrus, Mediterranean herbs and a fresh, pronounced acidity that makes it incredibly enjoyable.
On the palate, it is lively, savoury, aromatic and much more fun than you might expect from a retsina. Its Greek identity is clear, but expressed in a lighter, fresher and almost aperitif-like way.
It pairs perfectly with seafood, small fried fish, calamari, shrimp, salted delicacies, roe, lemony dishes, as well as aromatic flavours from Far Eastern cuisine. It is also great on its own, served very chilled, when you want something different, Greek and full of character.
