Limnio Kikones Estate
€27,70
Limnio by Kikones Estate is a red wine with deep Greek roots and a very contemporary expression. It is made from 100% Limnio, one of the oldest Greek varieties, which in Maronia, Thrace, shows character, finesse and beautiful intensity without becoming heavy. The vineyards are planted on red clay loam soil, with the area influenced by the Thracian Sea and Mount Ismaros, giving the wine freshness, a spicy feel and clarity of fruit.
In the vinification, Kikones Estate works with hand sorting and manual cap punching, in order to extract colour, aroma and tannins from the skins in a gentler and more controlled way. It then matures for 12 months in French oak barrels, while the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving a more vivid texture and authentic expression.
In the glass, it has a ruby colour with purple highlights and aromas of plum, ripe cherry, cinnamon, clove, coffee, cacao and blond tobacco. On the palate, it is full but not tiring, with soft, well-worked tannins, notes of liquorice and a fresh touch of mint that gives it energy and length.
It is ideal for red meats, pot-roasted beef, coq au vin, lamb, pork with spices, mushrooms or mature cheeses. Limnio by Kikones Estate is one of those red wines that have history behind them, but do not stay stuck in the past. It has depth, elegance and an earthy, spicy character that makes the glass serious, but not stiff at all.
