Daphne Kyr-Yianni Warehouse 10
€22,40
Daphne by Kyr-Yianni Warehouse 10 is a very different expression of Mavrodaphne from the image usually associated with the variety. Here, this is not a sweet fortified wine, but a dry red from Naoussa, with a finer, more aromatic and experimental mood. Kir-Yianni took a variety mostly connected with southern Greece and tested it in the northern terroir of Naoussa, creating a wine with fruit, freshness and plenty of personality.
In the glass, it has a medium ruby color and aromas that move through red and black fruits, such as cherry, sour cherry, blueberry and plum. Alongside them come more floral and herbal notes, with violet, lavender, bay leaf, pepper, cinnamon and subtle vanilla from ageing. On the palate, it is juicy, with medium body, refreshing acidity and soft tannins, leaving a finish that plays between fruit, herbs and spice.
The winemaking is part of its identity. The wine ferments and matures for 12 months in tonneaux, gaining rounder texture and depth without losing its aromatic clarity. The result is not a heavy, overripe red wine, but a more elegant and modern version of Mavrodaphne, with enough character for the table and enough freshness to be enjoyed easily.
Daphne is exactly the kind of wine that explains why Warehouse 10 exists: small releases, experimentation and labels that move a little outside the Estate’s classic line. It pairs beautifully with beef, lamb with herbs, duck, dishes with red sauce, mushrooms, mature cheeses and recipes with spices. A dry red from Mavrodaphne with finesse, energy and a real sense of discovery.
