Château Julia Agiorgitiko Domaine Costa Lazaridi

Château Julia Agiorgitiko by Domain Costa Lazaridi is a northern Greek take on the most velvety side of Agiorgitiko. The variety may be connected with Nemea, but here, in Drama, it finds a different rhythm: riper fruit, clearer structure and an elegance that does not try to impress loudly.

In the glass it has an intense ruby colour and reveals strawberry, cherry, raspberry, blackberry and sweet spices. Ageing in French oak barrels, together with oak and concrete tanks, gives it a rounder texture, depth and subtle complexity, while keeping the juicy red fruit in the foreground.

On the palate it is dry, ripe and velvety, with balanced acidity, soft tannins and a medium-length finish that leaves fruit and spices. Try it with pasta with red sauce, moussaka, soutzoukakia, beef in tomato sauce, pizza, sausages, aubergines with tomato or yellow cheeses. An Agiorgitiko that keeps the nobility of the variety, but gives it a more Drama-born, modern energy.
