Syrah by Domain Costa Lazaridi is a red wine from Drama with dark fruit, peppery intensity and that velvety power that makes the variety so loved. It is more generous than Merlot, but it does not lose its elegance; it has volume, spicy energy and a lovely ripe sensation that puts it straight into a proper dinner-table mood.
In the glass it reveals black cherry, small red and black fruit, violet, liquorice, leather, smoke, chocolate and sweet spices. Ageing for 12 months in French oak barrels gives it depth and a round texture, with the oak working discreetly to support the fruit rather than cover it.
On the palate it is dry, rich and generous, with ripe tannins, good structure and a long, spicy finish. It calls for meat with intensity next to it: oven-baked lamb, goat, spicy meat dishes, game, beef steak, tomato-based stews or mature yellow cheeses. A Syrah with power, finesse and enough depth to evolve beautifully over time.
