Mavrotragano by Artemis Karamolegos Winery is the dark, rarer and charmingly wild side of Santorini. Made from 100% Mavrotragano, one of the most distinctive red varieties of the Cyclades, it brings to the glass intensity, finesse and that island wildness that makes it instantly stand out.
Vinification works discreetly on the strength of the variety, keeping the fruit pure and the structure elegant. Ageing in French oak barrels and tank gives it depth, spicy hints and a rounder texture, without weighing down the character of the wine.
In the glass it reveals black fruit, white pepper, aromatic herbs and an earthy, Mediterranean intensity. On the palate it is elegant yet full of character, with fine tannins, freshness and a long finish. It needs a little time in the glass and pairs perfectly with aged cheeses, cured meats, beef steak, meat dishes with rich sauces or even grilled tuna for a bolder pairing.
