Maron Red Kikones Estate
€21,00
Maron Red by Kikones Estate is a Sangiovese from Maronia in Thrace, with Italian roots but a clearly Thracian signature. The variety that has made history in Chianti finds here a more southern, ripe and juicy expression, thanks to the distinctive microclimate of the area, where the breeze of the Thracian Sea, Mount Ismaros and the red clay loam soils give intensity, freshness and character to the fruit. The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese, from a vineyard in Maronia, with hand sorting of the grapes.
In the vinification, Kikones Estate works with whole berries and cap punching, a technique that helps with gentle but meaningful extraction of colour, aromas and tannins. It then matures for 12 months in French oak barrels, while the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving a more authentic texture and character.
In the glass, it brings out ripe plum, black cherry, violet and subtle oak notes, without the barrel covering the fruit. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, structured and lively, with tannins that are present but not tiring, fruity intensity and a very long finish. It is one of those red wines that you can open now next to food, but it also has a clear ageing potential for several years.
Try it with roast chicken or turkey, pasta with meat, beef, pork with herbs, mushrooms, charcuterie or mature cheeses. Maron Red is a wine with seriousness, but not stiffness. It has depth, it has intensity, it has that earthy elegance of Sangiovese and at the same time it carries the vineyard of Maronia in a distinctive and very contemporary way.
