Chardonnay Fumé Papaioannou Wines

14,90

Chardonnay Fumé by Papaioannou Estate is a dry white wine made from 100% Chardonnay, expressing a more complex and mature side of the variety through ageing in oak barrels. On the producer’s official website, it is listed as a dry white PGI Corinthia wine, sourced from estate-owned vineyards in Nemea, with production of around 20,000 bottles. The current label appears as the 2024 vintage in the estate’s label listings.

In the glass, it shows a bright golden-yellow color and a richer appearance, hinting at its full style. On the nose, it develops complex aromas of yellow and tropical fruits such as pineapple and pear, together with notes of butter, vanilla, and nuts, while some recent retail listings also mention touches of smoke and flint. Its aromatic profile is shaped both by the variety itself and by its brief contact with oak, which adds depth and greater complexity.

On the palate, it is dry, rich, and full-bodied, with a rounded texture, solid structure, and enough acidity to keep the wine balanced. Flavors of ripe fruit, vanilla, and subtle oak create a wine with volume, cohesion, and a long finish. Both the official and retail presentations agree that this is a Chardonnay with a fuller style than a simple tank-fermented example, and an ageing potential of around 3 to 4 years is also noted.

It pairs beautifully with grilled or buttery fish, seafood in richer sauces, white meats, pasta with creamy sauces, mushrooms, and semi-hard cheeses. It is a label for those looking for a white wine with volume, aromatic intensity, subtle oak influence, and a more gastronomic profile. It is released in a 0.75 L bottle.
