Although Malvasia Aromatica is cultivated in Italy primarily for the production of sweet wines, the variety is widely believed to be of Greek origin, most likely tracing back to Crete. Today, in its place of origin, Malvasia Aromatica is grown mainly on the island of Crete, with its strongest presence in the Heraklion region.
